About the complementary color comparison of lightness and saturation
I use the Peter Pan as a simply comparison with blue and yellow as an example. I was changed the lightness and saturation for define which could be more appropriate to children and the different age group?
From these three pictures I can compare that different color’s matching will brings totally different visual affection. In the same color tone with blue and yellow. We can find out the first picture would easy to attractive young children. In the first picture with both highest lightness and saturation in Peter Pan’s Logo and background. This is a brightness and popular picture for ages 3-5 children. Low and medium lightness would be discriminated slowly and difficult for them. cause the ages 3-5 years kids would be attractive by candy colors such as these two popular books on amazon’s children book award in 3-5 age group. (Pic 4,Pic 5）.The older children’s discrimination ability will be widely than younger children. they can recognize low chroma and lightness color easier and faster than young children.
So, the second and third picture might suit with old children ages 9-12. the color’s matching about lightness and saturation will not only depends on the story’s emotional types but also with the which age group you need to face.
